Gspaltenhorn West Ridge

The west ridge of the Gspaltenhorst is an absolute eyecatcher from afar. Its wild form and the red teeth attract alpinists that are into adventurous routes.

Yannik and I climbed to the summit in five and-a-half hours from starting from the mountain hut. Finding the right path, several wild abseil parts and the chossy and wet rock were definitely challenging. I really like the tour but I can’t recommend it with a clear conscience because of the chossy rock. During our descend I noticed that the standard route must have been similarly chossy at the beginning.

Subsequent entry July 21st, 2022:

The mountain hut keeper Christian Bleuer, which maintained the Gspaltenhorn Hut for many years, as well as the current couple maintaining the gut since four years knew nothing about an ascent of the west ridge in this time. Judging be the low frequency of visitors it will take some time before the west ridge is as cleaned and polished as the standard route.
